Melhem Zein's Biography

Melhem Zein, born in the Lebanese Beqaa in a town called “Shmastar” on October 21, 1982, has captivated the hearts of many since his first appearance in Superstar Program on Future TV. Raised among his seven siblings with two loving parents who are reputed for their love for music, Melhem’s talent began to develop. Melhem grew up to appreciate the voices of great singers, such as Mohammed Abd-Al-Wahab, Wadeea’ Al-Safi and Nazem Al-Ghazali.

His first encounter with music was at the age of seven when he sang Um-Kulthum’s “Lessa Faker” in a wedding ceremony. At the age of eleven, Melhem participated in a Song Festival, held in all schools of Lebanon. He got first place for the Beqaa Province, and was ranked fourth nationwide in Lebanon. Noticing his great voice and talent, his father, Hussein Zein, sent him to study the Oriental Music at the Lebanese Conservatoire “St. Coeur University” in Kaslik. There, Melhem started to polish his inborn talent in singing.

Believing in himself, his voice, and his abilities in singing, at the age of 16, precisely in 1999, Melhem Zein decided to participate in “Kaa’s Al Nojoum”, The Cup Of The Stars, a talent show on LBCI. He was running for the Tarab Category and he sang oldies for great singers of the Arab World. He was ranked first and was granted Mohammad Abdul Wahhab’s Cup for singing “Ya Jarat Al Wadi” song.

Not satisfied with what the first talents show provided him, he ran for Superstar One on Future TV in 2003. There, his stardom began to grow. The first time he appeared on Superstar, he captivated the hearts of many who later on became great fans of him. He sang for Wadeea’ Al-Safi, one of the greatest Lebanese singers of all time and introduced the Tarab songs that so many feel nostalgic towards. He grasped a lot of votes for different reasons: his great voice, his mountain-like voice, his dimples, his charisma, his spontaneity, his wise decision in picking songs and most of all his talent.

At this competition, Superstar, Melhem was ranked third place. When he was voted out, Lebanese outraged against the results and demonstrated on streets. His name appeared on the covers and first pages of Lebanese and Arab magazines and was hosted on several Radio and TV shows. In addition, he appeared on CNN, CBS and BBC news. He became the talk of town everywhere. Out of appreciation for his great talent, his great voice and for his great performance of the song “Endak Bahriya”, the fans gave him the title of “Al Rayess”, thus turning him into a star. The Kuwaiti composer “Abdullah Ka’oud” described him as an exceptional real artist due to the great love of his audience and his great voice.

Melhem wasn’t discouraged by his loss in Superstar program. He knew he had to introduce to his wide audience something to soothe their rage and to kindle their love. His first album Enti Msheeti saw the light in 2004 produced by Music Master. Enti Msheeti is the title of his hit song. He shot its video clip with Lebanese director Saleem El Turk. In the year 2006 Melhem Zein launched his second Album carrying the title of his hit song “Baddi Hebbek” with Music Master. It has 9 songs most of which are in the Lebanese accent. The video clip of “Baddi Hebbek” is directed by American director Rissa Machuka.

In 2007 Melhem’s contract with Music Master has come to an end after 5 years of working together resulting in 2 albums. He decided to produce his own music for the time being until he can get egaged with a production company. The outcome was a hit single which has been already released on March 2008 titled Mamnonak Ana written by Ahmad Madhi and music by Hisham Bulous. In additon, he shot a video clip for Mamnonak Ana with Lebanese director Saeed El Marouk. The song has gotten to NO. 1 in many of the Arab World’s Charts.

Noticing his success and his uniqueness, Rotana, a leading TV and Music Production Company, has started to flirt with Melhem, seeking his approval to join the company. After some time of negotiation, Melhem finally joins Rotana in the beginning of the year 2008. He, then, starts working on his third album which will be produced by Rotana.

The year 2008 is a very lucky one for Melhem Zein. In addition to his recruit to Rotana, he got engaged on March 6, 2008 to Yemenite Tamani Ali Salim Al Bead, the daughter of Ex-president of Yemen. The engagement was held in Oman, at Tamani’s father’s manor. And on June 26, 2008 he got married. His wedding was held in Biel Hall, Beirut, and was attended by most famous celebrities of the Arab World. Leading Lebanese singers, Najwa Karam, Nancy Ajram and Assi Al Hellani threw the wedding party which was later described as one of the most fabulous parties taken place every.

September 2008, Melhem Zein releases first single “Alawwah” from his third album with Rotana Production. His third album will be launched on October, 2008.

Melhem also tours the world and gives successful concerts whose resonance is well-known and appreciated, such as Tours in USA, Canada and Syria only to name few. And lately he has appeared on several Tv programs, such as Tarattata on Dubai TV, Superstar 4 on Future TV and Rotana Top 20 Music Zone program on Rotana TV.
